About PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS

The game that defined the battle royale genre

Game Overview

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS (originally PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) is the groundbreaking battle royale shooter that took the gaming world by storm. Created by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene and developed by PUBG Studios (a subsidiary of South Korean publisher KRAFTON, formerly Bluehole), the game launched in early access in March 2017 and officially released on December 20, 2017.

Built on Unreal Engine 4, PUBG drops up to 100 players onto a massive island via parachute. Starting with nothing, players must scavenge buildings for weapons, armor, vehicles, and supplies while a continuously shrinking electric play zone forces survivors into closer encounters. The last player or squad standing wins and is rewarded with the iconic "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner."

On January 12, 2022, PUBG transitioned to a free-to-play model, opening the battlefield to millions of new players worldwide. The game continues to receive regular updates, new maps, weapons, and seasonal content.
